The Total Eclipse Fest hosted by Calhoun County, SC and Calhoun County Library was a huge success by any standard. The Town of St Matthews may very well have doubled in population as people gathered from all over the world (Hong Kong, Austria, New Zealand, Belgium, England, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, WA, NY, FL, AL, WI, and from our own back yard) to watch the total solar eclipse. The common theme for picking St Matthews was location to the centerline and a smaller community meant smaller crouds.
Everyone The Calhoun Ledger spoke to was impressed with the event and the beauty of our community; especially the hospitality of the people who live here.
A number of sponsors came alongside the county government and the library to help secure the success of this event. They are: The Calhoun Times Leader, Calhoun Country Market, Tri-County Electric Cooperative, StarNet, Randolph Italian Ice, and Friends of The Calhoun County Library.
Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, St Matthews Police Department, and Calhoun County EMS were invaluable for the services they provided during this event.
And a big thank you to Kim Robinson and his son Justin Robinson of DJ Save-a-Soul. The music was wonderful and inspired a number of folks to get up and "groove!"
The biggest thank you to Cindy Haigler, Jeri Jeffcoat, and Kristen Simensen for all the hard work they put into planning and executing this event. An awesome job!
