Sandy Run Ruritan Club Receives Awards For Hard Work

On Saturday, November 14, 2017, the Sandy Run Ruritan Club received five Community Service Gold Awards from District Governor Albert Amick and from Ruritan National for outstanding and meritorious service to the Sandy Run Community. Awards were received in the areas of Social Development, Public Service, the Environment, Citizenship and Patriotism, and Business and Professions. These committees were chaired by Becky Starnes, Sheila Shanklin, James Robinson, Snooky McCullar, Howard Pees, and Gary Geiger, respectively. The members of these committees all worked very hard to improve life in Sandy Run.

In addition, the club won an award from the Ruritan National Foundation in recognition of its participation in the annual “We Care” Program. Also, Ruritan National presented Sheila Shanklin with an Honor Certificate for outstanding, meritorious, and unselfish service to the Columbia District as local Foundation Chair. This committee has helped serve students transitioning to college to receive scholarships. These committees and awards are only representative of the many contributions made by Ruritan members to Sandy Run. The Ruritans have served America’s communities since 1928. Our motto is to lead with “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service.” If you are interested in serving our community, we would be very happy to have you as a member. Please contact Kay James at
