COLUMBIA, SC – In response to this evening’s Republican debate, Representative James Smith has released the following statement:
“Tonight’s debate between the Republican Gubernatorial candidates offered few new ideas, and little designed to move our state forward. Rather than focusing on the very real issues facing our state, from the latest instance of infrastructure failure affecting I-526 in the Lowcountry, to the opioid crisis that has been ravaging our state and violence in our prisons, each candidate instead offered more of the same tired policies that have left our state floundering for far too long,” Smith said. “I am particularly appalled by the comments made by Catherine Templeton regarding the #MeToo movement. Women who come forward with allegations of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sexual harassment in the workplace deserve to be heard and supported, not used as part of a partisan attack. Rather than dismissing these women, we need to work with them, support them and listen to them.”
Representative James Smith participated in Tuesday night’s Democratic debate where he offered forward-thinking, pragmatic solutions to the problems our state is facing.
