The Sandy Run Ruritan Club met Tuesday, September 4 at the Sandy Run Community Center. Sheila Shanklin, Foundation Promotion Chair, spoke about the National Ruritan Foundation which helps manage a trust for the dispensing of funds for clubs across the nation. The trust helps clubs give scholarships to high school seniors for college through the “Build Your Dollar” program, disaster relief through the “Operation We Care” program, and other funding programs.
The funds for the Foundation are made through donations. She also educated the club on the history of National Ruritan that began in Virginia in 1928. The motto for the Ruritan clubs is “ Fellowship, Good Will and Community Service.” Pictured with Sheila is club president Ginger Hardee presenting Sheila with a Ruritan mug.
